The Voyage Continues: 2012
Island Life Publisher Kim Lunman
Island Life founder and publisher Kim Lunman is an award-winning journalist whose work has appeared in the Globe and Mail, National Post, and Reader's Digest. Lunman is a Thousand Islands correspondent and a self-described 'nautical hitchhiker' who has voyaged aboard the tall ship Fair Jeanne, the Canadian Empress cruise ship, antique yachts, classic wooden boats, Sea-Doos, power boats and her kayak to research islands over the past four years. Her travels have taken her to islands like Fairyland Island, Sugar Island, and Calumet Island and through its fabled castles and cottages, interviewing scores of skippers and River Rats along the majestic St. Lawrence River.
Lunman has worked as a national correspondent for the Globe and Mail in Victoria B.C. and Ottawa, and as a staff writer for the Calgary Herald, and the Saint John Telegraph Journal. Her work has also appeared in the Kingston Whig-Standard, VIA Destinations Magazine and the Brockville Recorder and Times. She is the recipient of a National Newspaper Award for feature writing and a National Newspaper Award finalist for enterprise reporting and Canada's Michener Award for public service journalism. The former newspaper reporter and photographer is based in her hometown of Brockville Ontario. She is a team member and contributor to www.thousandislandslife.com. Her company, Thousand Islands Ink, published the first edition of Island Life in 2010. She rented What If? Island in the summer of 2011 to write about the experience of island living for Island Life 2012. She takes readers to Wellesley Island, Red Top Island, Temagami Island and more islands next summer.
Thousand Islands Photographer and Author Ian Coristine
Island Life once again features the images of renowned Thousand Islands photographer and author Ian Coristine in its Summer 2012 edition. The award-winning photographer's work appears on the cover along with an inside photo essay. His latest book, The very best of Ian Coristine's 1000 Islands, has won the prestigious international printing Benny (Benjamin Franklin) Award. It's the second Benny for Coristine, who shared the same award with Henderson Printing for a 1000 Islands photography booklet in 2007. Coristine, who resides on Raleigh Island west of Brockville for six months of the year, literally lives in the assignment. The Hudson Quebec resident has published five books of photography: The 1000 Islands, Water Wind, and Sky, The Thousand Islands, 1000 Islands and his most recent, The very best of Ian Coristine's 1000 Islands. His photographs have been featured in Canadian Geographic, Coastal Living, Cottage Life, Gourmet magazines and books by other authors about the region. He is at work on a sixth book: 'One in a Thousand,' with co- author/editor Donna Walsh Inglehart, a memoir similar to A Year in Provence which will recount the life changing adventures which began with a random flight through the Thousand Islands almost 20 years ago. His photographs, taken from air, land, and water, reflect his passion for this special place. Visit Coristine's website at 1000islandsphotoart.com.
